Harford Middle School is one of three middle schools on the Island. It is situated near Longwood Gate in the district of Longwood. It was built in  1957 and named after the Governor of St. Helena, at that time Sir James Harford.

The school became a middle school in September 1988 to mark the change over to the Three-Tier System of Education. Before this time, Harford Middle School operated as a senior school.
The first headteacher of the school was the late Mr Maurice Young. His successor was Mrs Elvina Mercury who retired in August 1990. She was succeeded by Miss Heather George who retired at the end of 2000. The current headteacher is Mrs Carlean Crowie.

The school caters for children of both sexes and all abilities between ages 7 and 11 years. After their 11th birthday they move on to Prince Andrew School. Although the majority of children come from the Longwood district, the catchment area extends to Levelwood and Christening Bank.

The school has extensive views over the eastern side of the Island. Seen here is Deadwood Plain leading to Flagstaff Hill (left) alongside the imposing bluff known as The Barn (right).

The school logo represents two of the Island's notable icons - Napoleon Bonaparte incarcerated at Longwood at the end of his life and the wirebird, St Helena's only endemic bird species.
