History |
| Prior to the establishment
of a purpose built special education
needs facility, children with profound
or multiple learning difficulties were
based at the Barn View care
centre.
The first learning support centre was located at the Teacher Education Centre in Jamestown in 1992. Children in mainstream education with moderate learning difficulties attended morning sessions and the children with profound or multiple difficulties in the afternoons. In order to provide a more inclusive system whereby children could partake in as much of a mainstream curriculum as possible the centre was relocated to Jamestown First School in March 2001. This centre comprises two rooms within the school: a ground floor, ramp accessed classroom for children with profound or multiple learning difficulties and a second classroom which also serves as the Resources Centre. The close proximity of a first and a middle school allows the objective of integration in mainstream schooling to be met. |
