VACANCY FOR

 EDUCATION OFFICER – PRIMARY SECTOR

 

An opportunity for career progression, professional development and the chance to be a key player in the delivery of education services on St Helena; the post of Education Officer in the Primary Sector of the Education Department requires someone who is ready for a challenge, dynamic and self motivated with strong leadership and management skills, a sense of purpose and responsibility, plus a sense of vision and ability to adapt to change.

 

The Education Officer (Primary) is responsible to the Chief Education Officer and is a member of the Department’s senior management team.  The key responsibility of the post is the effective and efficient leadership, management, organisation and administration of Primary Education, including Nursery provision.

 

Key responsibilities include the deployment, overall supervision and monitoring of staff across all Primary Schools; curriculum development, implementation and monitoring including policies and procedures and the overall performance and progress of primary schools against set targets and projected outcomes with the aim of raising educational standards. Links with the secondary sector, community and other agencies including the encouragement of parental involvement in schools are all part of the role responsibilities.

 

The successful candidate will also be required to take overall responsibility for the physical and financial assets of all primary schools including resource utilisation and purchasing under the allocated Primary Sector budget.

 

As an Education Officer, the post-holder may be required to carry out the duties of Head of Department during the absence of the Chief Education Officer and represent the Department as required.

 

The post is currently graded at Level 8 and attracts a salary of £9780 - £11100 per annum. Applicants should ideally have at least a UK Post-Graduate Diploma in Education or equivalent and /or have successfully completed a relevant one year course of training in the UK, plus 12 years successful teaching experience including a period of three years in a senior management position. Applicants not meeting all of the requirements will also be considered if they can demonstrate suitable alternative or equivalent qualifications and or experiences.
